Ingrid Godon
Ingrid Godon is a Belgian award-winning illustrator and author. Her work has been exhibited internationally and her books are translated in more than forty languages. She gained international recognition with Wachten Op Matroos, her first book she inspired and illustrated. Since then she has published a lush bibliography that encompasses children’s books as well as poetry and literary fiction.
Her work spreads onto small and large format drawings and paintings, which often intertwine with monotypes, clay sculptures and screen-printings. A natural draughtswoman, Godon keeps experimenting with new techniques and developing as an artist while enjoying a vast commercial success.
To illustrate means to empathize with the story and to search for suitable techniques while purifying lines and colours. Every book must be complete and I find satisfaction whenever my illustrations transmit a sense of vulnerability.- Ingrid Godon –
Ingrid Godon composes images that convey intense emotion with the fewest elements possible. She searches for means to purify her pictures, finding strenght in the essential. Her work combines a sensitive hand with a melancholic vision that unfolds into portraits, landscapes and stories. The ambitious project Dantesken (Borgerhoff & Lamberigts, 2018) gave her the freedom to let inspiration prevail while remaining faithfull to her delicate approach.
